Client story 1
Our child was having difficulty in spelling, reading and decoding of words and would get letters mixed up. She would often guess how to spell words and we couldn’t comprehend her story writing. Her frustration and lack of confidence were our reasons for reaching out for support.
Our biggest goals were for our daughter to be taught the rules needed to help make spelling and reading easier and to help improve her confidence.
We were recommended to The Dyslexic Clinic by Dyslexia NSW. Rebecca was extremely helpful from the start of the process and answered all the questions we had. Rebecca was very professional, knowledgeable, patient and caring with us and our daughter throughout our time with the Dyslexic Clinic.
We didn’t have any concerns about online tutoring. From our daughters first lesson we could see that she felt safe and comfortable with Rebecca and there were no issues with her staying focused during her lessons.
Our experience was extremely positive. Rebecca kept us informed of our daughter’s progress , offered support and advice to us, offered advice for our daughter’s school and offered ongoing support if we need it.
Our daughter was taught the rules she needed in a fun way but in a way that made sense and in a way she can recall. She learnt all of this in a safe and caring environment with Rebecca.
Our daughter applied herself to her lessons and to tutoring homework and her results have been amazing. She is happy and willing to read a book and write a story and is taking the rules she has learnt and applying them at school and home. Her school work is readable and her spelling words at school are from the more tricky list which she gets excited about.
Our daughter’s confidence has grown so much since working with Rebecca. Before she started her tutoring there was always a lot of tears and frustration at homework time and as parents we tried to help her but we didn’t know if the resources we were using were helping. Our daughter wasn’t confident to ask questions in case they seemed silly but this has all changed for the best and as parents we have also learnt the best way to help.
Our daughter has just finished her tutoring lessons and we couldn’t be more thankful and eternally grateful to Rebecca.
We would definitely recommend The Dyslexic Clinic. This investment has changed our daughters life.
Client story 2
Luke was diagnosed with Dyslexia and had low self esteem. He was having a lot of difficulty with reading and spelling and consequently was falling behind in class. This also affected him socially as he withdrew from friends and became very down on himself.
My biggest goals were for Luke to learn the skills needed to succeed with reading and spelling and ultimately gain confidence in his ability, leading to improved self esteem.
I found Rebecca online when searching for tutors. We discovered that there were very few tutors who specifically worked with children with Dyslexia in our area and it ultimately came down to a choice of two, one of those being with Rebecca online.
Despite my concerns about online tutoring, Rebecca was the stand out. Our initial conversation was very in-depth and she provided me with a great wealth of information about her services and the structure of the lessons. Rebecca took the time to answer all my questions and address my concerns. This combined with her care and professionalism left me feeling completely at ease with her and confident in my decision to choose Rebecca.
My biggest concern about online tutoring was that I was worried that Luke would struggle to form a connection with his tutor online and that he wouldn't engage as well as he perhaps would in a face to face setting, leading to him becoming distracted and disinterested.
Luke also was a bit apprehensive about working online but this was because he thought he was going to be online with other students but when he realised it was one on one, he felt much more comfortable.
All of my fears about Luke doing tutoring online disappeared and Luke easily formed a connection with Rebecca. She took the time to interact with Luke socially and he felt comfortable talking to her about any problems he was experiencing. It was so convenient doing lessons at home, we'd come home from school and have 5 minutes before his lesson started to get organised. Then he'd do his lesson and be done, having the rest of the afternoon free.
On days when he didn't feel like tutoring, it was an easy process as I didn't have to drag him off somewhere for his lesson, it was done at home in an environment that he was comfortable in. Rebecca has provided so much help and support to Luke, not just with his learning but also his self esteem and confidence. He has grown and learnt so much as a result of working with Rebecca. Doing online tutoring with Rebecca was the best decision we made.
Luke was excited to know that he was working towards completing the program as it was an important goal to achieve and for him to know that it had an end date and wouldn't just continue indefinitely. Luke is an active class participant who once shied away from having to write sentences and paragraphs, but now does so willingly and with confidence. Although he does not like to read, he has become much more proficient with greater accuracy and minimal guessing.
The change in Luke has been remarkable. He has gained so much confidence working with Rebecca and is back to being sociable again instead of withdrawing from friends. Academically, his reading and spelling has greatly improved and he now has the knowledge, skills and tools to use to keep progressing. He is no longer falling behind and is thriving in class.
Your child's education is paramount. Tutoring can be expensive but seeing your child learn and thrive with Rebecca is so rewarding, it makes the sacrifice well worth it. Rebecca genuinely cares for her students and supports them to reach their full potential. I have no hesitation in recommending Rebecca for your child's learning journey.
Ivy had been diagnosed with dyslexia and we were quite lost in the process. She was given intervention by the school but it did not seem to be working. Ivy was falling further and further behind her classmates and I was very concerned for her. Ivy was starting to notice her differences and was feeling very isolated and embarrassed.
The main thing I wanted for Ivy was for her to be able to feel comfortable and confident in the classroom. For her to be at an average level so that she would be able to progress with her classmates.
Someone posted about The Dyslexic Clinic on a dyslexia Facebook group, that they had had good success with the tutor. I researched a couple of tutors and chose this one.
The biggest concern I had about online tutoring was that it would not hold Ivy's attention, that she would lose focus and connection with what was being explained. I was pretty adamant that she should be face to face but after speaking with Rebecca, I felt confident that she was the right person for Ivy.
Online was actually a much better solution for us. We never would have been able to commit to face to face for as long as we did online, as we have a very busy schedule and online actually suited Ivy better. She really engages well with technology and it gave her independence in her tutoring.
Rebecca has been a God send to our family. From a mother who was very concerned and completely lost as to how to help her child, Rebecca understood Ivy, the pace she needed to go at and how to fill the gaps of learning that she hadn't picked up at school. She was patient and engaging and so much more than a tutor to Ivy and myself.
Ivy is now at reading and writing average for her age. Something I never thought I would say. She will look at words and know they are incorrect and she will try again and again until she gets them right. She understands how words are made up and why they are that way. She reads confidently and spells tricky words. She has learnt tools that she can use as she approaches every situation.
Her confidence in reading and writing has sky rocketed. She no longer fears writing or spelling tasks at school. She enjoys creative writing and story telling. Words can not describe how grateful I am for this process and Rebecca. She has truly changed Ivy's life forever and given her skills she will use for the rest of her life. I am beyond thankful.
Rebecca is worth her weight in Gold. No price can be put on the confidence of your child. When they feel confident in what they are doing, when they no longer feel isolated or 'stupid', that is the best investment worth making.
